The plant is not suitable for direct sunlight and has high water needs. In Vietnam, green-skinned pomelo is grown by layering or grafting. Among them, grafting gives the best quality. When the Pomelo is as big as a duck egg, growers often use plastic, punctured at both ends, to wrap the fruit. This helps limit pest and fly attacks.

As of December 2023, Vietnam has about 110,000 hectares of Pomelo cultivation. Ben Tre is still the locality with the largest planted area with about 9,400 hectares. Vietnamese green-skinned Citrus (Pomelo) products have been exported to 50 countries worldwide. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has recognized Ben Tre green-skinned pomelo as a national plant variety.
