Product Description

RAW MATERIAL AREA

Lemongrass is predominantly grown in hilly regions. In Vietnam, major provinces with large Lemongrass cultivation areas include Daklak, Gia Lai, Thanh Hoa… Lemongrass is relatively easy to cultivate, not picky about soil, resistant to pests and drought, especially requiring minimal care. The stems of Lemongrass are red, and both the leaves and branches of this grass contain essential oils, which have insect-repelling properties. The peak growth period of Lemongrass is during the summer in moist, nutrient-rich soil.

HARVESTING

It takes only 3 months from planting to harvesting Lemongrass, with each crop cycle spaced around 40-50 days apart, allowing for continuous planting throughout the year. Lemongrass plants yield well from the second year onwards and can be harvested for 5-7 years. Each hectare of Lemongrass cultivation can yield 10-15 tons of leaves per year.

DISTILLATION OF LEMONGRASS ESSENTIAL OIL

Lemongrass is stripped of old, faded leaves and dried to about 50% moisture content before being used for essential oil production. Lemongrass essential oil is produced through steam distillation, with heat generated by electricity. The distillation capacity is 1 ton of raw material per batch. On average, 1 ton of leaves yields between 3.6kg – 4.2kg of essential oil.

APPLICATION

Food Industry: Lemongrass is a common spice in Vietnam, adding an enticing flavor to dishes. Additionally, with its gentle lemony scent, Lemongrass essential oil is used in flavoring, food seasoning, and beverages. Citral is also used in the synthesis of vitamin A, ionone, and methylionone. Cosmetic Industry: Due to its fresh lemony fragrance, Lemongrass essential oil is used in the production of skincare products, shampoos, toothpaste… Manufacturing of Cleaning Products: Lemongrass is used in the production of dishwashing liquid, floor cleaners, laundry detergents… Aromatherapy: Lemongrass essential oil helps purify the air, repel insects, promote relaxation, and reduce stress.
