Product Description

RAW MATERIAL AREA

Tan Lac (Hoa Binh) and Mo Cay Bac (Ben Tre) are two renowned regions in Vietnam for cultivating green-skinned pomelos. With high economic value, green-skinned pomelos are transforming the lives of Vietnamese farmers. As of December 2023, Vietnam has 110,000 hectares of green-skinned pomelo orchards, with Ben Tre having the largest cultivation area of 9,400 hectares. Thanks to favorable climate and soil conditions, green-skinned pomelos in Tan Lac (Hoa Binh) and Mo Cay Bac (Ben Tre) consistently maintain high quality. These are the two main regions that supply high-quality pomelo peels for VIPSEN’s essential oil production.

HARVESTING

The period from planting to the first fruit typically spans 2-3 years. Starting from the age of 4, pomelo trees will yield stable and uniform fruits. The period from flowering to harvest lasts about 7-8 months, depending on the season, tree age, and growth conditions. When ripe, the oil sacs in the peel expand, the peel becomes taut, and its color changes. Pomelos are harvested in cool weather to avoid harsh sunlight, which can cause the oil sacs to swell and rupture. While green-skinned pomelos produce fruit year-round, the main harvest season is around August-September in the Gregorian calendar.

EXTRACTION OF POMELO PEEL ESSENTIAL OIL

VIPSEN purchases pomelo peels from juice extraction facilities, pomelo peel processing workshops, or farms growing young green-skinned pomelos operated by local farmers. The peels are naturally dried before being used in production. Pomelo peel essential oil is extracted through steam distillation and heated using electricity. The processing capacity is 1 ton of raw material per distillation batch.
