RAW MATERIAL REGIONS

Litsea cubeba is a small to medium-sized tree, reaching about 5-8m in height, growing wild among various other types of trees concentrated in the northern mountainous regions, specifically in provinces such as Lao Cai, Lai Chau, and Ha Giang…

In recent years, Litsea cubeba fruits have been harvested extensively for essential oil distillation. However, due to their scattered distribution, harvesting is carried out by local labor using rudimentary tools.

HARVESTING

The Litsea cubeba fruit harvesting season occurs from July to August and November to December annually, with the main focus in July-August. Since Litsea cubeba fruits grow sporadically on the mountainside, farmers must cut entire branches before harvesting the fruits separately. The fruits are harvested when they change color from green to purple, indicating the highest concentration of essential oil.

LITSEA CUBEBA OIL DISTILLATION

The distillation equipment utilizes steam distillation technology, heated by large-capacity steam boilers.

The condensation unit employs tube bundle soldering technology to ensure maximum efficiency. Approximately 25-30kg of essential oil can be extracted per ton of fresh lemon eucalyptus fruit.

APPLICATION OF LITSEA CUBEBA OIL IN PRODUCTION

Food industry: Litsea Cubeba, also known as “Wild pepper,” has a refreshing taste reminiscent of lemongrass due to its main component, Citral. Apart from essential oil distillation, dried litsea cubeba is also an important seasoning in the preparation of certain dishes.

Cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry: Litsea Cubeba essential oil, during the distillation process, yields Citral, which becomes a primary ingredient for synthesizing various essential compounds, such as Vitamin A, aromatic derivatives used in cosmetics.
